Background and Rationale
As a major player in the global seafood trade, Thailand is an important country for WWF’s global goals in sustainable fisheries. The country is the top tuna producer in the world, and in the top 3 largest exporters of shrimp globally.
for MTI: Thailand is an important country for the production and export of several MTI commodities, namely tuna and shrimp (both wild & farmed) and sugar. The MTI company research identified 8 Thai companies in the 500 MTI priority companies (an additional 2 or 3 priority companies are based in Vietnam)
for SFI: Thailand is highly relevant in order to promote the adoption of a legal, transparent system that ensures our seafood is sustainably caught. Furthermore Thai companies play a crucial role to commit to certified fisheries, and to purchase and sell seafood products that can be traced back to its origin.
WWF Thailand Sustainable Markets Team is active in key fisheries roundtables and influencing standards and processes including FIPs towards ASC and MSC certification.
WWF Thailand is in discussion with seafood producers on supply chain transformation and traceability of their wild caught fish and fishmeal sources.
WWF Thailand needs a qualified lead for fisheries work to 1) manage strategic corporate engagements with seafood industry, 2) liaise closely with SFI and MTI global teams to ensure WWF Thailand contributes to delivering global fisheries objectives, and 3) scale up WWF Thailand’s impact in shaping government fisheries policy and influence with the various national fisheries roundtables in setting standards towards MSC and ASC certification.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
Engage strategic partners in fisheries sector to transform value chains
Manage relationships with seafoof producers
Represent WWF in fisheries roundtables influencing standards for shrimp and tuna COCs towards certification
Engage relevant government contacts and ministers – fisheries, commerce, labor, etc. to influence policies towards environmental and social sustainability in fisheries supply chains
Liaise closely with internal Network fisheries teams to align with global goals in tuna and shrimp chains of custody

Establish and implement fisheries strategy for Thailand aligned with relevant GIGs and global objectives, and Thailand’s 2016-2020 conservation strategy, specifically sustainable production and financial flows
Act as WWF Thailand’s interphase with Greater Mekong country and regional teams for fisheries work, sharing knowledge and training where required.
Qualifications:
Essential
BS or Masters degree in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Natural Resource Management, or related fields
3-5 years experience in supply chain mapping, sustainable production of seafood, or related fields
Technical expertise in a relevant environmental, sustainability, economic, business or industry discipline, and experience in the application of this knowledge in a relevant context.
Demonstrated understanding of the Thai and regional markets and supply chains for seafood, including national and international issues, policy legislation and key stakeholders.
Excellent speaking and written English and Thai
Desirable
Experience in management of, large and complex projects.
Experience in strategic planning and assessment, and policy analysis and planning.
Significant advocacy skills and experience in negotiating with high-level stakeholders.
Sound financial management skills, including budgeting.
Understanding of the links between economic growth, sustainability, environmental conservation, poverty and livelihoods in the emerging markets.
Experience working in a cross-cultural environment and in developing countries.
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills including the ability to build positive relationships internally and externally.
Experience developing networks in government, international organisations and NGOs.
Experience working with regional stakeholders and/or pre-existing networks.
