The system is technically feasible and economically viable. In
the near future, the surface of the reservoir will be totally
covered with the floating system. The photovoltaic plant will
become a source of income for the reservoir’s owners. Additionally
the system will help reduce water losses due to
evaporation.
On the other hand, the system also contributes to more sustainable
land management practices since a pre-existing water
storage structure is used to install a photovoltaic plant instead of
having to change the use of agricultural lands.
The Photovoltaic Floating Cover System (PFCS) described in this
paper can be an efficient solution to certain agro-energetic policies
and issues and to the need for water efficiency tools in the agricultural
industry.
