The myth takes place in ancient Greece, where Apollo was found of a young boy named Hyacinth. The West Wind Zephyrus also fell in love with Hyacinth, and soon feuded with Apollo. One spring day in the mountains, Hyacinth and Apollo were throwing discus. Zephyrus, jealous of Apollo, blew the wind and made Apollo’s discus strike Hyacinth, causing his death. Apollo, mourning his death, begins to cry, and from Hyacinth’s blood sprang up a purple flower, and Apollo’s tears then stained the pedals white as well. Apollo named the flower after Hyacinth, and it blooms each spring on the anniversary of his death. The moral of the story is to not let your jealously consume you.
