Abstract
This article focuses on social science professions in the United States. It addresses the nature of these professions, the process of professionalization, degree production and graduate enrollment in social sciences fields, degree completion, and time-to-degree. Moreover, this article examines diversity and the social sciences doctoral degree, international comparisons in social sciences doctoral degree production, and the contours of the labor force in these fields.
