This leads us to the second strong reason why businesses worldwide need a
DR plan. When they determine the hourly cost of downtime, businesses consider
several things such as lost productivity of employees, lost sales, cost of trying
to recreate data, cost of missed SLAs, and time involved for an event’s
post-mortem and meetings. More importantly there are softer costs such as
reduced employee morale and customer confidence. Compare the estimated
cost of downtime and the cost of implementing a DR plan. Chances are good
that the cost of downtime will be far greater than the cost of protecting the data.
