19.1.1 Restrictions on the emission of smoke from equipment
[Basic requirements]
The emission of smoke from equipment under fault conditions shall not impact users.
[Design standards]
Equipment shall be constructed so as not to emit smoke beyond the amount of smoke generated by
one lit cigarette under calm conditions.
Note: Component failures, including short circuits and open circuits, are not deemed to occur
simultaneously, unless faults accompanied by the emission of smoke are logically
considered to occur continuously.
[Criteria]
Compliance is determined by bringing the equipment into fault conditions.
Note: The criteria for the equipment’s fault conditions shall be determined by taking the actual use
of the equipment under consideration.
