There are also a number of areas where the method could be improved
in terms of how well it takes into account the organisational realities
and real world constraints of small tourism businesses. The
characteristics, capacities, resources, ownership, motivations, and
knowledge of sustainability and responsible tourism influence how
effectively small tourism businesses are able to engage with the SIA
process. There is a need for more research to better understand
these variables and the implications they have for how the SIA
method should be further adapted, especially to suit the small business
tourism context.
