India’s eastern neighbor Myanmar shares a border of 1643 kilometers with India. The states adjacent to the Myanmar is Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram. The border is totally unfenced and both states permit a Free Movement Regime up to sixteen km across the border. This makes the international border extremely porous. The unfenced Indo-Myanmar region is thus being exploited. On this long border, both the governments have agreed to construct border fencing for 10 kilometers which the Manipuri villagers in the area claim is being constructed in the Indian territory thereby ceding some Indian territory to Myanmar.
