For girls below 16 years old, 24 % of those living in a single parent family consume alcohol on a
weekly or daily base, versus 13 % of those in a step family
and 7 % of those in two-parent families (v2 = 14.8,df = 2, p.001).
For boys and girls from 16 years and older the association between drinking behaviour and
family constellation is not statistically significant, but again
a higher percentage of boys in single parent families and
girls in stepfamilies are frequent drinkers. These findings
are in line with the expectation that boys and girls in two-parent families are less frequent users, but the gender differences regarding single parent and stepfamily configurations
are not in line with the hypotheses.
