Note ; The use of radioactive source for inspection is governed by the Work Permit system and completed by the Complementary permit for Radiography. The safety precautions to be taken while performing radiography work will be reminded at the occasion of the issuance of the permit to work, which will, at least include the following:
• Public address announcement to be made prior to start and at job completion.
• Whenever possible, such an operation shall be carried out at a time where a minimum of personnel is on site (Break time or Meal time).
• Radiographer is not to be left alone (two persons mini.) during operation.
• The source shall be taken out exclusively for the time required for the job.
• Manipulations shall be automatic or remote handling systems.
• Ensure that source has been put back in its shielded position at the end of each operation.
• Wherever possible, a flashing light should be used when the source is exposed. The explosion-proof type electric equipment shall be selected for use in the process hazardous areas.
• All contractor personnel will be given hand held radios which will remain on channel 2 that is in line with central control room channel (other channel shall be used only when channel 2 cannot be well available). Radio test is to be made between radiation team and central control room.
• The Owner‟s representative or Safety Superintendent will also maintain a radio watch on channel 2 or others as above.
• Initial response to emergency calls has to be agreed and followed between radiation team and central control room in the event of operational urgency requirement, radiological emergency, etc.
