As argued at the beginning of this chapter, Asia-Pacific societies adopt and adapt, in a hybridized manner, a variety and conglomeration of citizenship pedagogies. There are always ‘in-between’ in the way that citizenship pedagogies are developed that would cater to the various concerns, purposes, and features of various types of contexts. Figure 15.1 is an attempt to represent visually the hybridized nature of Asia Pacific citizenship education pedagogies. I have identified three types of prevalent pedagogical approaches. In between and across the three types of pedagogies, there are efforts at integration to accommodate and incorporate the often-competing concerns and expectations of the different approaches and their underlying values. This reveals a tendency towards the hybridization of citizenship pedagogical approaches in Asia-Pacific societies in the varied patterns that governments and curriculum planners adopt in a juxtaposed or integrated manner.
