Memorized scripts are for performances such as TV shows, plays, and films. On the other side,
minimal outline is found on the communication orientation side of the continuum. The issue is
how much the speaker is bound to a specific set of words in a specific order. While this is often
necessary for radio and television (where you only have, say, :30 for a specific spot, it is usually
not the case for public speaking, where the speaker can engage the audience more directly. A
minimal outline allows speakers to stay on topic, but also engage audiences without having to
worry too much about losing their place.
