Listening posts are areas set aside in classroom where the children can go to listen to audio recordings (often through headphones) of stores, poems and other oral language texts. There is a diverse range of suitable recordings available commercially, but teachers can easily prepare their own recordings using published stories or those that the teacher or the children, or both, have created.
Grout of children or individual children can listen can listen to an audio recording while others are carrying out other activities. Children might simply listen to the recording or they might carry out a related activity afterwards such as to draw, write, talk with others, answer questions or retell or explain the listening text.
