You must be outgoing to be a successful salesperson. You should be ready to reach out to multitudes of people you do not already know in order to sell them something. You have to overcome natural timidity with practice. Work on approaching people without the benefit of a sales lead. Learn to sell something to someone you know nothing about and is unfamiliar with you and your company. Make your introduction warmly. Smile, use engaging language and be friendly and nonthreatening. Practice helps you develop these traits.
