First we’d like to talk about the history of the Spaghetti Bolognese.
Spaghetti Bolognese originated in Bologna in Northern Italy in the late 18th Century where it is known by its original name ‘ragu alla Bolognese’ (Blumenthal, 2006). Ragu was derived from the French word ragoûter which means stew (Robuchon et al., 2009). Bolognese is the English translation of Ragu meaning a ‘sauce we based on beef and vegetables, particularly tomatoes’ (Robuchon et al., 2009). The ingredients of this dish vary all over the world For example, in the UK, USA and Northern Europe a lot more tomatoes are used than the original recipe recommends.
