The learning curves in Figure 3 show the performance of the
animals during the first 4 trials of new discrimination problems,
averaged across the last 5 sessions of the 20 session test phase
at each stage of the experiment. By the end of preoperative
training, all subjects were showing rapid within-problem learning.
Following bilateral amygdalectomy, they continued to acquire
new problems without difficulty, although there was a
small deterioration on average in the rate of learning. Neither
transection of the uncinate fascicle nor fornix transection produced
any further impairment.
