The standard practice of growing cinnamon is as
sole crop under full sunlight with a plant density of
about 13,500 bushes ha)1 (spacing 1.2 m · 0.9 m).
But their ability to grow and yield satisfactorily under
moderate shade (Pathiratna et al. 1998; Pathiratna
are bushes with many shoots of varying sizes.
With age the bushes become larger and some plantations
are about 80 years old. Such old healthy bushes
can yield about 5–7, 1.5–2.0 m long mature shoots at
each harvest (Samaraweera 1964).
