Yeah, it's all relative. It depends on what you define as comfortable.
My mortgage repayment is similar to yours and I have one child who currently does only 1 activity. I would struggle on $45k without any child support.
At the moment I'm comfortable. I go on an annual overseas trip and at least 1 domestic every year. I also manage to save on average $1k a month without having to really watch what I spend. I don't get any child support and a small amount of FTB. I earn almost double your income though.
For me, to be comfortable with two children and maintain the same lifestyle, I would need to be on a min. of $80k per year.
My job change about a year ago brought about a $20k increase to my salary and it made a huge difference. I think $20k would make a massive difference to any family's budget.
Good luck OP. It certainly does suck when the ex thinks that he doesn't need to be financially responsible for his children.
