The ABC model for joint products is presented in this paper and a simplified illustrative case is used to demonstrate the
product costing for joint products under ABC. In this model, the joint-product costs can be achieved by the following
steps: (1) tracing direct costs to processes, (2) tracing indirect costs to activities, (3) tracing activity costs to processes,
and (4) tracing process costs to final products (including the joint cost allocation). This costing procedure is a little
different to the ordinary ABC model. The resource (production) costs should be traced to processes eventually and then
to products. With this ABC model, companies such as petroleum refiners, meat packers, and flour mills could do
costing work easily.
