Manganese dioxide (MnO2) (particle size <44 m, purity92.15%, ERACHEM) was used as a catalyst for the oxygenreduction reaction. To increase the cathode’s electrical conductivity,Super P black (MMM carbon) was mixed into itselectrode, and different kinds of activated carbon were addedto the cathode mixture (Table 1). The different activated carbons’particle sizes are similar to each other, so we disregardedthe effects of differences in particle size (Fig. 2). The activated carbon supplied airflow channels and reaction sites. Apoly-tetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, particle size 0.05–0.5m, 30-JDupont) dispersion was used as a binder and an 8.5 mol solutionof KOH was used as the electrolyte. For full cell tests (cathodedimension: 2.5 cm×2 cm), a mixture of zinc powder (particlesize 250m, UNION MINIERE) and poly-acrylic acid (Carbopol711, BF Goodrich) was used for the anode [6].To manufacture the cathode we first mixed the PTFE dispersionwith distilledwater, and then added the Super P black carbon
