McCauley-Bell and Badiru (1992) applied fuzzy set theory to the
development of a fuzzy linguistic model designed to predict the risk
of developing a workplace cumulative trauma disorder (CTD). They
reviewed the literature and identified those personal characteristics,
task variables and environmental factors that had been shown
to contribute to the development of a work-related CTD (note that
this term was used for WRMSDs in the late 1980s through mid-
1990s). This work set the stage for subsequent ergonomic expert
systems that utilized fuzzy set logic in their development and
architecture.
