Danone wanted to do its own small act for the environment and posed the following question: How can we reduce our ecological footprint? As Danone’s packaging accounts for 40% of its ecological footprint, the answer was a obvious.
Naturally, efforts and time were invested into research to rethink our packaging. Two innovations are emerging:
A new ecological manufacturing process called « expansion »for individual servings of Activia, Stonyfield, Silhouette and Creamy. This process reduces the overall density of the plastic. Less plastic equals less pollution but it’s equally resistant!
The adoption of an ecological version of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for its drinkable yogurt product line (DanActive, Danacol, Danino Go and Drinkable Activia). The ecological HDPE is entirely recyclable and its use will reduce the CO2 footprint of drinkable yogurt containers by 55%.
These green packages will gradually reach the shelves of your favorite stores to be completed by the end of 2011. People will thus be able to buy their yogurt knowing that they are doing another small act for the environment.
Since it is as important to take care of the environment as your own health, we recommend that you take the time to carefully read the packages of the products you buy in order to know whether or not they are recyclable. We also recommend that you reach out to your municipality in order to learn about the kinds of plastics that are collected in your area.
