The northings and eastings of these
sampling locations were measured using a Garmin Etrex 20 Global
Positioning System (GPS) device and used for mapping of sample
locations. All samples were preserved by acidification to pH b 2 with
concentrated acid at the time of collection and shipped to Vermont for
chemical analysis. Enough concentrated nitric acidwas locally available
to acidify 16 of the 20 samples; however, concentrated hydrochloric
acid had to be used to acidify the remaining 4 of 20 samples (S2, S3,
S4, and S5; see Table 1).
