ConclusionsAn enriched biochar was synthesized by mixing biochars withmanures, minerals and clays and heating the mixture at 220◦C.Chemical analysis of the enriched biochar showed that it has highconcentrations of exchangeable cations, available phosphorus andhigh acid neutralizing capacity. Microstructural analysis reveals aporous biochar structure being surrounded by layers of mineral, forming organo-mineral complexes. Incubation studies shows thatthe EB has a mean residence time of ∼150 years, and may serve asa suitable soil amendment both for increased nutrient availabilityand through longer term sequestration of biomass C in soil.
