Before 2016, sepsis definition were:
Sepsis: Signs of systemic inflammation (SIRS),
with proven or presumed infection.
Severe sepsis: Sepsis, accompanied by lifethreatening
organ dysfunction.
Septic shock: Sepsis-induced hypotension,
despite adequate fluid resuscitation.
The new Sepsis-3 definitions are:
Sepsis: Life-threatening organ dysfunction
caused by dysregulated responses to infection.
Septic shock: A subset of sepsis with profound
abnormalities of circulation and ce llula r/m etasignificantly
bolic function.
