Public SNS offer several potentials not only for individuals but also organizations. The majority of research has focused on
individuals’ use of SNS. Prior studies that investigated SNS use for government organizations focus on improving
communication between these organizations and citizens. Very little attention has been paid to the potentials of SNS for
government organizations especially work groups. Public organizations, such as government organizations, can benefit from
these free web-based networking platforms and utilize them for their internal employees’ group work. SNS provide a
platform of technologies that can support to a good extent group work; SNS offer several opportunities for group
collaboration and social interaction especially for government organizations. However, some risks might be associated with
their use because of their limited security and privacy controls and information overload. Thus, organizations need to
recognize the costs (weaknesses and threats) and the benefits (strengths and opportunities) of using SNS for internal group
work. This enables them to strategically integrate these tools. This paper assesses IT managers’ perception of social
networking sites’ (SNS) strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for groups’ collaboration at government
organizations. Public organizations are in need to concentrate on learning and knowledge management as part of strategic
management and how ICT can be best integrated
