surveyed a group of
expert CBT therapists about what they observed to
be associated with treatment-resistant panic disorder,
finding such factors as noncompliance, secondary
gains, and therapy relationship problems to

disorder, McCabe and Antony (2005) emphasized
that this information can serve “to improve our
current treatments and to further our understanding
of the mechanisms underlying suboptimal
response and relapse following treatment” (p. 2).
