Specifically, CPAs should advise an
entity to enhance its control environment
through the following five actions, if they
are not already in place:
n Develop a formal organizational structure.
n Provide written job descriptions.
n Implement a process for formal employee
reviews (annually, at minimum).
n Conduct background checks and consider
credit checks for all new personnel, being
sure to comply with all applicable laws.
n Develop an employee code of conduct
that summarizes the organization’s values
and expected employee behavior.
