Suggestion 7: Be sure to distinguish between observation and inference. If you see a person crying, is it correct to assume that she or he is sad? Although it seems reasonable to make this assumption, it could easily be wrong. We can observe objectively that the person is crying, but to infer sadness may be in error. It could be that the individual has just peeled 5 pounds of onions. Or maybe he or she just won a million-dollar lottery or is trying con-tact lenses for the first time.
