Our results show that the health and nutrition education
intervention was associated with positive changes of post-partum practices. The intervention was successful in
improving women's nutrition and health knowledge and
some postpartum practices. An increased fruit intake was
found in both rural and urban intervention groups. Significantly
more women in the intervention groups give up
the traditional behavior taboos (no bathing, no hair
washing or teeth brushing) than those in the control
groups. We have confirmed that traditional postpartum
practices in both urban and rural community can be
changed quickly by messages given by health professionals
