This study surveyed users of three different gyms located around Perth, Western Australia (private gym, university based gym and a community recreational centre). Each gym offers a range of similar facilities such as, weight, cardio and group fitness training. A mall-intercept technique was used to collect the data. The gym users were asked to complete a self-administered questionnaire on-site. An attempt was made to approach all gym members as they were leaving the gym. 438 gym members were asked to participate in the study, of these 285 completed surveys were received resulting in a response rate of 65%. Respondents included a small majority of males (58%) and the majority of respondents were aged 18-35 (64%). Most of the respondents (89%) were regular gym users (attending the gym 2 or more times a week). The majority of respondents have been attending their current gym for 2 years or less (74%). A comparison of demographic groups revealed female gym (mean=5.411) attendees rated their quality life to be slightly higher compared to males (mean=5.169; t=-2.284,sig=0.023), however no significant gender differences were evident for the customer perceived value dimensions.
