Cancer patients are requesting participation in decision making concerning the impact of the tumor and its treatments on their functional status and quality of life. Patients fear a host of consequences, including fatigue, altered mood states, and mortality. Health care professionals have expertise in prescribing appropriate treatments and evaluating the effects of these treatments on the cancer tumor. But it has become apparent that cancer patients are requesting more from health professionals during their recovery process to help improve their quality of life. It has become essential during and following cancer treatment to develop and support programs that will help restore daily routines and promote a healthy lifestyles for those surviving cancer.
