The most interesting result from this preliminary test was that most hearing participants preferred to play with speech, whereas most hearing loss participants showed a preference for music. Even though the sound sets were not the same for the studies, we interpreted the results as meaning that music has a communicative meaning generally preferred over speech by persons with hearing loss. It is well-known that communication is helped when we pay attention to non-verbal information such as facial expressions. Likewise, when speech is not accompanied by any context or supplemental information, the contents can expectedly be harder to com-prehend.
