Increase in per capita income growth
The improved policies discussed earlier promoted economic growth and specifically income growth. Binswanger-Mkhize and McCalla (2009) report that per capita income growth increased rapidly in the decade between 1994 and 2004 with 20 countries expanding more quickly than the average rate for the rest of the developing world. As a result of accelerated per capita income growth (especially in urban areas) effective demand was increased leading to increase in market size food products and thus contributing to agricultural growth and reduced numbers of poor people in the fastest-growing countries. Not all of this has already been translated into measurable reductions in hunger and malnutrition.
