After investigating the best part of frond that should be used for juice harvesting, the juice from approximately 1–3 m away from the trunk was proposed as the part that should be used to harvest the juice. This suggestion however, depends on the size of the OPF itself. It is however recommended that the juice to be extracted from the part after the woody part of the OPF nearest to the trunk. HPLC analysis showed that this part of OPF juice (1–3 m away from trunk) had 40 g/L concentration of fermentable sugars consisting of glucose, sucrose, fructose and arabinose in the concentration of 24.7 ± 2.6, 12.3 ± 1.2, 1.6 ± 0.4, 1.4 ± 0.5 g/L with 0.2% total suspended solid. This juice is referred to as OPF raw juice throughout the literature. To validate fermentation results, mixture of synthetic sugars following same composition was prepared which is termed as OPF model juice. So OPF raw juice and OPF model juice are similar in sugar composition but varies in the origin of sugars.
