The seeds of C. paniculatus were weighed to 10 g and crushed
in pestle and mortar using liquid nitrogen until they were coarsely
ground. The seed powder was extracted in 100 mL distilled water
for preparation of aqueous extract. The extract was filtered using
double layered muslin cloth. It was subjected to centrifugation at
4000 × g for 30 min at room temperature. The supernatant was
filtered through Whatman no. 1 filter paper. The collected supernatant
was allowed to evaporate to dryness at 40 ◦C for 3–4 days to
form a thick concentrated solvent extract. Methanolic and chloroform
extracts ofthe seeds ofthe plant were also prepared following
the same procedure. The extracts were preserved in brown bottles
at 4 ◦C until use.
