Silver(I) benzyldiphenylphosphine complexes were successfully
synthesised and characterised by FTIR, NMR and SXRD. Suitable
crystals for the 1:2 M ratio complex, complex 2 – [Ag{PPh2(CH2C6-
H5)-jP}2SCN-jS].CH3CN were obtained for single crystal X-ray
diffraction studies. Complexes 1 and 2 were evaluated for their
anticancer properties against SNO cancer cells, and the alamarBlue
assay confirmed a significant decrease in the cell viability
after the treatment. Morphological studies suggested that
complexes 1 and 2 induce the apoptotic cell death pathway, due
to the observation of apoptotic bodies. It can be concluded that
the synthesised silver(I) benzyldiphenylphosphine complexes can
be employed in anticancer studies.
