The pre-conference field tour will begin in Ames and we will visit a variety of agroforestry systems including riparian forest buffers, windbreaks, and specialty forest products. This tour will be a good opportunity to see several agroforestry applications in different settings in the heart of Iowa. The tour will depart from Ames at 8:00 am and return around 5:00 pm. Lunch will be included, but dinner will be on your own when the tour returns to Ames. Pre-registration for the Pre-Conference Agroforestry Field Tour is required. Pre-Conference Advanced Agroforestry Training Workshops (May 31, 2015)
Prior to the start of the 14th North America Agroforestry Conference, up to three concurrent half-day advanced agroforestry workshops will be offered. The workshops will be held on Sunday afternoon, May 31, at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center in Ames, IA. The target audiences for the workshops are individuals who have attended the two recent Agroforestry Academies in 2013 and 2014 as well as natural resource professionals who have previous experience in planning agroforestry.
The workshops will focus on examples of people actively engaged in agroforestry in US and Canada. Presentations will be delivered either by the landowners or experts familiar with different enterprises. The discussion will include the constraints, opportunities, and challenges of different agroforestry operations. The producers will discuss how their agroforestry systems have evolved over time and their motivations to adopt this approach. The workshop will include formal presentations with an extended question and answer period to help fully understand these agroforestry systems. Pre-registration for the Workshops is required. Please look for the Workshop fee when registering for the 14th North American Agroforestry Conference.
