In this paper we carried out a research to classify the types of reason why 8th graders dislike mathematics. As a
result, it was possible to abstract five types of math-disliking reason such as ‘Competences’, ‘Basics’, ‘Confidences’,
‘Values’, and ‘Instructors’. Some of these types were proved to be closely related with both cognitive and affective
domain of mathematics learning. Hence they were expected to clarify some affective factors which had already
been well known from many researches. Also they would help for preparing effective teaching and learning
strategies pertinent to each student. Further, correlation coefficient between mathematical achievement and each of
these five math-disliking types were investigated.
