A few studies indicate that systems or
databases to acquire vocabulary knowledge are
usually created for a specifi group of learners.
Butgereit and Botha (2009), create a system
containing vocabulary lists for language instructors
to encourage students to practice spelling the
words. Similarly, another study uses “an Internetbased application (Hadeda) to create spelling lists
for instructors and parents of school children. By
using speech synthesis technology, the system
generates audio clips and packages them into an
application which can be downloaded to cell
phones or accessed via the Internet. When children
listen to the words, they are required to type them
in for verifiation” (Butgereit, Botha, & Van Niekerk,
2009)
