We cannot respond to God in a vacuum. We can respond to God only in a particular situation and as we are. So any science which throws light on the situation and state of development we have attained can throw light also on our spirituality and can help it grow if used properly. Groeschel (1983) expressed this idea in the following words:
A person responds to grace and revelation in a social context, and both sociology and social psychology open up great areas of understanding.
A person responds with his or her personality as it has developed, with many scars and wounds; thus therapeutic psychology can be very helpful. Human beings respond in different ways at different phases of development, and therefore developmental psychology and experimental psychology can provide a good deal of insight, (p. 99)
