Previous reports showed that CCl4stimulates lipid accumulation and fibrosis in rat liver. A histological analysis was conducted
to investigate the effects of MWE on CCl4-mediated liver fibrosis.
Unusual lipid accumulation was observed in the control group.
On the other hand, lipid depositions were evident in the CCl4-treated group. Fewer lipid deposition and fibrosis were found in the
groups coadministered with MWEs or silymarin (Fig. 7). Increased
liver fibrosis was also observed in the CCl4-treated group using
Masson’s trichrome stain, but not in the MWE or sylimarin cotreat ed groups (Fig. 8). Cellular vacuolization was also reduced in the
MWE or sylimarin cotreated groups (Fig. 8).
