If categorical parcel data are being rendered in a color scheme such as red for commercial and industrial parcels, green for parks, and brown for residential parcels, and your map is at a smallish scale, you will not want to cause undue clutter by outlining the parcels with colored outlines and may need to get rid of them, especially if it is the overall effect of the land uses that is the main take‑away from your map as opposed to what individual parcels are categorized as. If there are a lot of categories and the scale is smallish, you may need to create one or more inset boxes that enlarge the more dense regions of the map in order to allow your viewer to see the smaller parcels within those dense sections.
