This system may be too stressful from a welfare point of view although, according to some authors, it could be safe from a sanitary point of view. In fact, this may better allow for the identification and treatment of sick animals and may also
improve surveillance and monitoring in the farm. The light regimen for fatteners should be about 12 h light/12 h dark per
day, although these animals are often kept in the same room with the does. Food and water are usually provided ad libitum.
The optimal temperature is about 15–20 °C, with a relative humidity of 60–70%.
