Defect A:
Detachment of the rubber covering due to :
• mishandling in the workshop at the time the bellows was placed in the air
spring,
• effects of corrosion between the bellows and the metal part facing it: chipping
of the covering during dismantling,
• the abrasive effect of trapped foreign bodies,
You are strongly advised not to reuse bellows exhibiting defects of this kind.
Since the bead of the bellows is no longer uniformly seated on the sealing cone,
there is no excluding the risk of air escaping while the air spring is in service.
Defect B:
Rubber chipping on the edge of the bead : defects of this kind can be caused by
rough dismantling of the bellows. In general, damage of this type is tolerable.
Irregular damage of this type should not, however, be confused with the part's regular
original chamfering. For in point of fact, the bead edges of certain types of bellows are
chamfered at the factory for manufacturing reasons (see Figure 6 below).
