Relationships among the five policy-informational components and five policy-analytic methods may be illustrated by considering how a policy analyst in the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration (LEAA) might employ information provided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The FBI publishes statistics in the form of Uniform Crime Reports, an annual compilation providing information on the number of serious offenses known to federal, state, and local authorities per 100000 population.
Information contained in these reports (Table3-2) may be used to monitor crime control policies, to evaluate their outcomes, to structure policy problems, to forecast policy futures, and to recommend courses of action to resolve problems of crime.
