who looked for correlations between a number of measures of seed size and the growth of the radicle of lettuce seedlings. With the exception of density, all measures were good predictors of radiclegrowth with seed weight being the best. The advantage bestowed on heavier seed can persist into mature plants. Gamiely et al. (1990) found that final yield of onions positively correlated with seed size. In this study, it appears that the early advantage of the heavier seed, in terms of growth, was maintained for at least the duration of the experiment.
