The unit of analysis of this study is the organisation. Therefore, Australian organisations that have
implemented ERP formed the basis of the sample frame for our study. Initially, two major ERP vendors
(SAP AG and the Oracle Corporation) were approached to provide the contact details of their clients;
however, for legal reasons, they had to decline. A list of companies was obtained from Fairfax Business
Research, a major research company, which is a division of a major newspaper and business magazine
publishing company. This research company and its databases have a good reputation for accurate
information, and the database we were able to purchase included details on companies that had
implemented ERP. Our use of such a database is consistent with similar studies on ERP (e.g., Karimi
et al., 2007; Wang et al., 2006, 2008).
