In Singapore, foreign workers are mostly legal and protected by law when working in factories. Individual employers, however, seldom respect the law and also exploit their Burmese maids. The Singaporean press mentions and sometimes denounces the actions of Chinese employers (especially abuses against maids) when such cases happen to be brought to court. But this occurs only rarely in Thailand, and then it is principally because Thai government representative in foreign countries immediately take up the abuses of the employers in order to help or protect their fellow citizens, whether the latter have migrated legally or not.
