5. Conclusions
The fact that a high prevalence of suspected NIHL was
found among individuals involved in traffic coordination in a
city with growing levels of noise pollution may inform the
development of programs aiming to promote public health.
There is room for improvement in the TEC Hearing
Conservation Programme. Every effort should be made in
order to increase the effectiveness of the programme in
reducing the potential health risks presented by worker
exposure to environmental noise.
We also recommend that further studies be conducted.
The design of such studies should allow for the investigation
of the causal relationship between exposure to urban noise
and NIHL frequency
